What’s New at Launch: Open World, FITS Combat, and Narrative Choice
Set in a vast open world realized on an unprecedented scale, Final Fantasy VII Revelation gives players new opportunities to explore the planet via the iconic Highwind airship. Exploration extends beyond the Highwind, as players can once again rely on their trusty chocobo companion Piko, who this time serves as both a mount and combat ally. Piko will grow stronger alongside the party, gaining new capabilities that assist during both traversal and battle.
Combat sees significant expansion through the introduction of the new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or the FITS System for short. FITS allows for customization of play styles with four specialized uniforms imbued with unique move sets: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. These FITS dramatically alter party members’ abilities and combat functions, creating new tactical possibilities. The appearance of the character also changes with each FITS, making a striking fashion statement during gameplay.
Players will also be able to choose which party member takes on certain quests. The choice impacts how specific story events and gameplay scenarios unfold, creating unique narrative experiences shaped by each decision. A new dynamic character-switching feature allows instant swaps between party members while exploring the world, and traversal has been upgraded through a grappling gun that enables quick scaling of rooftops and stylish city navigation.
For card game lovers, fan-favorite minigame Queen’s Blood makes a return — this time with a major new storyline centered on Red XIII. Players will face powerful new opponents and unique gameplay challenges that expand upon the strategic card game’s mechanics.
Square Enix also confirmed Cid and Vincent as new playable characters in this finale. The extended gameplay deep dive showcases these systems in action, including Cid in the Knight FITS and Vincent in the Summoner FITS.

Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC. Editions & Pricing: What’s in Each Tier
Pre-orders are available now on PlayStation Store and other digital storefronts (Switch 2 digital pre-orders open at a later date). A special pre-order bonus is available for all editions: fans who pre-order the game will receive the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia.
The Premium Edition ($99.99 digital) includes the main game, Story Expansion Pass, and Early Access granting entry 24 hours before the April 8 release — so you can start playing on April 7. It also includes an in-game accessory (Reclaimant Choker) and a set of consumable items to support the early stages of the journey. The Story Expansion Pass grants access to two story-centered DLC packs featuring Sephiroth and Vincent & the Turks, planned for release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028 (details and timing subject to change). Square Enix also says the pass will be sold separately at launch, and both DLCs are planned for individual purchase after they drop.
The Premium Plus Edition ($109.99 digital) includes all Premium Edition content, plus a digital art book, digital mini soundtrack, Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia, an in-game armor (Nymphwing Bracelet), and an in-game accessory (Risk Taker’s Choker).
There’s a digital Standard Edition at $69.99 as well. For physical collectors, Square Enix announced a matching Standard Edition ($69.99), a Deluxe Edition ($99.99) with a mini soundtrack, artbook, and steelbook case, and a Collector’s Edition ($349.99, Square Enix Store exclusive). Collector’s includes all Deluxe contents plus a premium statue featuring Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth, the Story Expansion Pass, Reclaimant Choker, Survival Set consumables, Nymphwing Bracelet, Risk Taker’s Choker, Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia, and Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia.
There’s also a digital Trilogy Edition ($84.99) currently available to pre-order on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. Square Enix says it grants immediate access to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, plus the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia in Revelation.
Physical Day 1 Editions at several retailers include a Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Final Showdown promo card (English card only, while stocks last). Amazon’s Day 1 Edition also includes a folded poster. Those retailer extras are tied to the physical Day 1 boxes — not the digital Trilogy Edition.
