Minecraft Dungeons II is coming out September 29, 2026 — Switch, Switch 2, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The named new place is The Sift. You can pre-order a $29.99 Standard edition or a $49.99 Deluxe that throws in two future DLCs. The awkward bit, if you’re on Nintendo: the Switch listing still says Switch 2 compatibility is untested.

What’s actually new: The Sift
This is still a dungeon-crawler action RPG, just a sequel. minecraft.net keeps it simple: new missions, new enemies, new areas. The marketing line you’ll see everywhere is that mysterious rifts are tearing open across the Overworld, and they lead to The Sift. That’s the one new dimension they actually named.
Nintendo of America posted the date on X. Same day, same platforms as minecraft.net. Store copy talks about stopping a new evil from causing chaos in “not one, but two worlds,” and says you can still mess with weapons, armor, and playstyle the way the first game did. That’s the official pitch. They haven’t published a bestiary, a seasonal calendar, or a lore dump beyond that.
On co-op: Xbox says 2–4 players, local or online, plus Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and co-op. Steam lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer and parties of up to four. What they haven’t spelled out is the boring-but-important stuff — who can invite whom, whether voice chat is built in, or if every platform can sit in the same lobby. Until a store page says it, we’re not going to pretend they did.
How much, and what’s in the box
Two editions. Standard is $29.99 USD — that’s the game. Deluxe is $49.99 USD and adds 4 hero skins, the Soul cape, the Blub pet, and DLC 1 & 2 when those actually come out. Those DLCs are real post-launch expansions, not extra hats. You can pre-order on the Nintendo eShop, Microsoft Store / Xbox Store, Steam, and PlayStation Store.
Pre-order before September 28 and both editions get the same extra pile: 2 hero skins, the Twisted cape, and the Twisted chicken pet. minecraft.net also notes you’ll need an initial content download, and online console co-op still wants that platform’s paid online sub.
Those dollar amounts are US store prices. If you’re shopping in euros or pounds, check the local listing — we didn’t convert them.
File size — and the Switch 2 question
Nintendo’s estimate is 6.8 GB on Switch and Switch 2. They also say that number (and the rating) might still move before launch. Fair enough.
Here’s the part that’ll trip people up: Nintendo put up two separate product pages. The original Switch listing currently says Switch 2 compatibility is untested and will be checked later. They have not said a Switch digital copy unlocks the Switch 2 version. They have not said cloud saves hop between those two. If you’re buying on Nintendo hardware, read the listing you’re actually paying for.
The trailer
Nintendo of America posted the official clip: “Minecraft Dungeons II – Gameplay Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2.” It’s the same announcement that locked in September 29 for Switch and Switch 2.
We’re not going to recap fake set pieces. Official copy gives you rifts, The Sift, and four-player co-op. Watch the video if you want the rest.
Quick answers
When does it come out?
September 29, 2026. Nintendo of America and minecraft.net both say so, on the same set of platforms.
Switch exclusive?
No. minecraft.net lists Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Switch 2. minecraft.net
What’s in Deluxe?
4 hero skins, Soul cape, Blub pet, and DLC 1 & 2 when released. The Xbox Store listing is the cleanest confirmation. Pre-order bonus until Sep 28: Twisted cape, Twisted chicken, 2 extra skins.
Can I play with friends on other consoles?
Xbox says yes to cross-platform multiplayer and co-op, plus 4-player online or couch. Steam lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer. Nobody’s posted a full “this platform can party with that one” chart yet.
Is there post-launch stuff?
Two DLCs are promised. That’s it for now. No dates. No “Year One” slide. If you remember Seasonal Adventures from the first Dungeons, that hasn’t been announced for this one.
How big is the download?
Nintendo’s estimate is 6.8 GB on both Switch and Switch 2. Subject to change.
What’s next
Pre-orders are live. The extra skins and Twisted gear go away September 28. Deluxe buyers get those two DLCs whenever Mojang actually ships them.
We’ll update this if Nintendo clarifies the Switch → Switch 2 license question. Until then, September 29 is the date, The Sift is the named new dimension, and everything else is whatever the store pages say — not what we wish they’d said.
