If you like buying physical game discs for collection for game collection purposes or want an easy way to share your games with your friends, then we recommend investing in the PS5 with a 4K Bluray disc drive.
By paying a little extra for the disc drive in the standard PS5 edition can save you some money in the long run, because just like the digital PSN game sales, many fabulous deals come for physical disks as well. Also, sharing your games with your friends becomes very easy with physical discs.
PS5 is also backward compatible with PS4. So if you have lots of PS4 game titles available in physical disc format, you would only be able to play them in the PS5 Standard Edition with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc. You can read more about it at: Can You Play PS4 Games On PS5? Remarkable backward compatibility.

Do PS4 games work on PS5?
One major announcement regarding the PS5 was the backward compatibility with PS4, most of the PS4 titles are on the PS5. You will not have to repurchase your favorite PS4 games to play them on PS5.
With the PS5 standard edition having a 4K Blu-ray drive, you can use any of your physical PS4 game discs and insert them into the PS5 disc drive to play it on your PS5 console. You will be able to play digital versions of your PS4 games on it as well. The video games may ask for an update before playing on your PS5 console.
As for the PS5 Digital only edition, there is no disc drive on it, so you won’t be able to play your physical PS4 game disc, but you can play the digital version of your PS4 games. Again, the video games may ask for an update before playing on your PS5 console.

Should you buy a PS4 or a PS5?
![Should you buy a PS4 or a PS5](https://gameconstant.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Should_you_buy_a_PS4_or_a_PS5-1024x512.jpg)
Sony has discontinued most PS4 models, and only the PS4 slim model will be produced for the foreseeable future. Prices for PS4 are quite inconsistent now since there is high demand, and supply chains have been disrupted after the launch of PS5. You can read more about it in detail at How Much Does PlayStation 4 Cost? Is it still worth it?
Because PS5 is a next-gen console that is superior in every aspect compared to the PS4, the PS5 can be an easy choice to make over the PS4. In the coming years, you will see more and more PS5 exclusives titles that won’t be available on the PS4, but still, some new upcoming games such as Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok will be released on PS4, along with PS5. Also, please note that the PS5 titles can cost you up to $69.
PS4 still has a lot to offer, at it has loads of games available at its disposal so that you won’t find yourself out of options with it. Though most of the PS4 titles are also playable on PS5 as well through PS5’s backward compatibility
To sum this up, whether you should buy a PS4 or a PS5, we would recommend that if you want to future-proof yourself and enjoy the best blockbuster games for the many forthcoming years, buy the PlayStation 5. If you want a more budget-friendly option and still want an incredible gaming experience, grab a PlayStation 4 during a sale. Also, lots of great PS4 video games can be easily found at a low price during the sale period.
Should you buy a PS5 now or wait for the PS5 Pro version?

As you can see, after the launch of the base or ‘fat’ version of a PlayStation, Sony usually launches the next iteration of the same console as the slim or pro model in 3-4 years. Going by the previous trends, if you have the patience and composure to not buy the PS5 for three to four years after the launch date of PS5 in November 2020, then only you should wait for the PS5 Pro version or even a slim version, for that matter.
We would recommend buying the PS5 now and upgrading it later if you feel so when (or if) the Pro version of PS5 comes out.
