After restarting your PlayStation 5 console and your router, try joining the voice chat again on your console to check if the issue is resolved. Hopefully, the problem will be resolved. If the issue persists, then read on to troubleshoot the matter further.

Use a LAN cable to connect PS5 to the router.

Ethernet cable

For this step, we use an Ethernet cable instead of a Wi-Fi connection to eliminate any possibility of a wireless connection issue. LAN cable also provides low latency than a wireless connection. Follow the below steps to connect your PS5 to the router using a LAN cable:

  • Grab an Ethernet cable and plug one end into your PlayStation’s ethernet port and the other into your wireless router.
  • Before connecting to the internet, be sure that both ends of the cable are properly plugged in.
  • Then go to Settings Network >  Settings  > Set Up Internet Connection  > Set Up Wired LAN.
  • Once you select Connect and follow the instructions on the screen, the standard settings will be selected automatically.

Then, try connecting to the internet and check if the voice chat issue is resolved. If your PS5 can’t join voice chat, then we continue the troubleshooting with the below-mentioned points.

Check the status of the PSN network.

Offical PSN network status page

One of the other issues might be the official PlayStation Network. Sometimes the PSN service might be down for some maintenance work or because of some other issue. If the PSN service is down for any reason, you won’t be able to voice chat with your friends/family on your PS5 console. To check the status of PSN Network, you can visit our guide at Is PSN Down? 3 ways to check the PlayStation server status.

If you found out that PlayStation servers are up and running, we need to troubleshoot further as the issue is not with the PlayStation servers; instead, it is something else. Read on to find out how you can use an alternative way to join a voice chat with your friends/family.

Use a different headset and mic.

The underlying problem might be with your headset or your Microphone. Therefore to troubleshoot this and check whether the issue is with the real issue is with your headset or mic, we recommend that you get another pair of headsets or Microphones for this troubleshooting process. You can even borrow the headphones or microphones from your friends for testing purposes only.

Connect the new pair of headphones and microphones to your PlayStation 5 console; now check whether, with the help of the latest accessories, your PS5 can join voice chat or not. If your PS5 can successfully join a voice chat, you can confidently say that your old set of headphones or microphones is the real issue. Therefore, we recommend that you use the new pair of accessories for chatting purposes.

If still, your PS5 can’t join voice chat, then we need to troubleshoot further. Read on to find out what other steps are available to troubleshoot the issue successfully.

Invest in a new router to connect to the internet.

Your router might also be a culprit because of which your PS5 can’t join voice chat. Because of the internet connectivity problem, you might sometimes experience some issues with your voice chats. To troubleshoot this, use a different router device to connect your PS5 to the internet. If you are using a router provided by your ISP, it could be a good idea to instead invest in a new router and buy it yourself. Using the latest router can also reduce latency issues in your network.

Hopefully, network issues are resolved after using a new router, and you can successfully voice chat with your friends. But even after investing in a new router, if your PS5 can’t join voice chat, then read on; we still have some troubleshooting steps for you to follow.

Use the PlayStation app to join the voice chat.

Sony has added the functionality in the official Sony PlayStation app to join the voice chat. This means that without using the PS5 or PS4 console, you can join the voice chat. You can read more about this update at the official Sony website: Introducing the new PlayStation App.

Download Sony’s official app “PlayStation App.” from the below download link:

Launch the PlayStation App and Sign in to your account with the same PSN ID you are logged in to your console and join the party with voice chat.

Contact PlayStation Support

If you have tried all the above steps and if still, your PS5 can’t join voice chat then, we recommend getting in touch with PlayStation Support, and they will guide you further in troubleshooting the issue. You can contact Sony’s official PlayStation support at the following number:

If you can’t hear your friends on PS5 or vice versa, then try the below fixes:

Confirm the audio output settings.

If you happen to be using headphones with your PlayStation 5 console, an audio setting called the ‘Output to Headphones’ needs to be updated. Follow the below steps to confirm the setting:

  • Open the Settings menu on your PS5.
  • Afterward, select Sound.
  • Then, select the Audio Output.
  • Next, choose the Output Device as Controller Headset.
  • Finally, set Output to Headphones as All Audio.

Setting the option as described above will allow the PS5 to send all the audio to headphones, including the voice chat audio. This might help you resolve the issue and can finally hear your friends on PS5 through your headphones.

Check Mic sound settings.

We also recommend checking the Microphone settings in your PS5 whether it is set correctly or not. An incorrect setting may also be the root cause of your issue. Follow the below steps to check Mic sound settings in your PlayStation 5:

  1. First, go to the Settings and click on the Sound tab.
  2. After that, select Microphone and click on Adjust Microphone Level
  3. Lastly, adjust your Microphone Level until it hits a good mark.

Once done, go back to your voice chat to check if the problem is solved.

Turn up your voice chat volume.

One of the most overlooked issues is with sound volume for party chat, and it might have been turned down on your PS5 console. To resolve this, follow the below steps:

  • Grab your PS5 controller and double-tap the PlayStation Button on it.
  • It will bring up a quick menu option for the voice chat party option.
  • In that menu, go to the voice chat volume option and press the ‘X’ button; this will bring up a volume control slider for your console.
  • If you move the slider to the right side, it will increase the voice chat volume, and if you move the slider to the left, it will decrease the volume of voice chat and increase the volume for in-game sounds. Therefore, move the slider towards the right side of the slider till it hit the sweet spot.
  • Double-tap the PlayStation button on your controller once again to dismiss the quick menu.
  •  The above settings will increase the volume across all the voice chat parties. You can change the volume for voice chat for specific individuals as well. Bring up the voice chat volume menu again by double-tapping the PlayStation button on your controller.

Now go to the name of the player for which you want to change the volume settings. Select the name of the person and press the ‘X’ button. This will again bring up a volume slider that is specific to that player only. Now increase or decrease the volume for this player as per your requirement only.

Increasing the volume as described will help address the issue as after joining the party, you might have decreased the volume for your party chat because of which you cannot hear anything in the conversation.

On the PS5 console, you may also face some common sound-related issues such as PS5 has no Sound, or if PS5 Sounds Muffled, or PlayStation 5 Keeps Beeping. You may take a look at respective guides which contains all the information to help you resolve those issues.
